Raby Bay to Dunwich Camping weekend 22nd to 23rd March 2014
Eight of us set off from Raby Bay VMR boat ramp at about 9:30am Saturday morning. Weather was cloudy with rain bands surrounding us. Tide coming in and light winds. Paddled to Horseshoe Bay on Peel Island where we stopped to stretch our legs and have a snack, unfortunately the mozzies wanted to snack too. While there we had our only rain for the weekend, really just a very light shower. There were a lot of boats on the water even a couple of groups of snorkelers around the wrecks. After a short paddle to Dunwich, we pitched tents at BradburyÌ¢‰â‰ã¢s Campsite. All the ladies caught a local bus to Point Lookout to enjoy a walk along the Gorge walk taking in the great views of Main Beach with the waves rolling in and checking out the blow hole. The coffee, Croissants and Ice creams were all good too. Mike and Phil went for another paddle to the south, seeing many birds along the way. Gordon and Michael arrived by motor boat later in the afternoon, the wind had picked up so not as pleasant a crossing. Dinner at the Little Ships Club http://www.littleshipclub.com.au/ was very enjoyable and only 200mtrs from the tents. On Sunday morning we all went to the Moreton Bay Research Station. We were shown around by Kevin Townsend, Station Manager, who informed about some of the research done there. Very interesting. http://www.uq.edu.au/moreton-bay-research-station/about-us After coffee and cake in a local cafÌÄå©, it was Sunday after all, we packed up and paddled back via Horseshoe Bay again. Great paddle look forward to doing it again.
